I followed her to the very back of the building where a few empty cages lined the wall. She told me they were for animals that had something called parvovirus, and needed to be quarantined. Another room housed a couple of cats and several dogs. I did know a little about bountiful dog grooming and the like of course. They were in cages that looked like condos, big and spacious, with toys, and those carpeted climb-things for the cats. They looked quite comfortable, even if some (the dogs, mostly) were being a bit noisy. She said that they were not patients, that they were being boarded. She said that boarders were walked at least twice a day, came out to eat and of course to also be played with. There was a little nervous mutt that she admitted they let out to wander around for short periods because she was such favorite with the staff. She mentioned something along the tour she gave me that I found interesting. She said that animals try to hide it when they’re hurt if they can. In their evolution in the wild, that was a necessary coping device for survival, since it was dangerous to let other animals to know if when were vulnerable. She asked me if I’d ever noticed how dogs will circle a couple of times before they lie down. She said they do that because in their tens of thousands of years of evolution they liked to hide in tall grasses, and turning around a few times flattened the grass to give them a spot to lie down on. There was one last room we visited, upstairs. It was a cozy room with rocking chairs in a sunny corner, and lots of plants. She said she kept this room as a place where pet-lovers could be with their pets before their animals were put to sleep. I looked around the room and realized that this was a place for animal lovers. It was plain and simple animal love.

Friday, August 14th, 2009According to a study done by ConsumerLabs.com, some of the joint supplements that can be used to treat joint health in pets like cats, dogs and horses are missing the proper amount of key ingredients. The supplements should include glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate supplements, what was found is that at least six of these supplements that were tested did not contain the amounts of either glucosamine or chondrotin that are needed to treat osteoarthritis. When tested the supplements contained 5.4 percent of the claimed 17 percent of the glucosamine or chondrotin that is used for pain, soreness and inflammation in dogs, cats and horses. The MSM or methylsulfonylmethane was found to be at the correct published levels in the supplements and this is used for treating pain that is connected with muscle and tendon soreness, pain and inflammation in horses. In my opinion, many types of dog food I certainly do recommend a premium grade dog food such as that by Life’s Abundance, which is indeed one of the best.
Family Pet Suffering From Obesity In Italy
Saturday, August 8th, 2009According to new research family pets in Italy are suffering from obesity, with 42 percent of cats in the country obese, followed by dogs at 36 percent being obese. The survey that was done was released by Hill’s Pet Nutrition.
The study that was done by a group of veterinarians, nutritionists, and university staff that have name themselves the pet obesity task force. They reported that the percentages that were found in Italy are in line with the percentages found in the rest of Europe, with the United Kingdom having at least 40 percent of canines overweight and 25 percent that are considered obese.
France comes in with lower percentages of obesity, with only 5 percent of dogs being obese, but 39 percent of dogs being overweight. They might try a different dog food. A good premium dog food like life’s Abundance can make a big difference overall.
My theory is that many of the larger commercial dog food manufacturers have fattening dog food in gneral.
Part of the problem is believed to be the lifestyle of the pets and their owners, with a many living in apartments. Cats that are overweight that live in gardens are a percentage of 36, while the rest of the obese cats live indoors
What’s All the Fuss About Fur Balls?
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009Every one in a while, you may have noticed your cat cough. You may first attribute it to their cat food. If you’re never had a cat, you might find the site alarming when you see your cat coughing. You may think he’s sick, that he doesn’t like his cat food, or that’s he’s swallowed something – as they will typically scrunch down on all fours, close to the ground, and typically extend their chin out, elongating their neck. Usually, this behavior is quite normal and is not harmful to your cat. Your cat is just trying to get rid of a fur ball.
So what’s up with Kitty when he does this? Cats clean themselves by licking their fur. This behavior helps to keep their fur tidy and fresh looking. Often, you can tell a sick cat right way by the mere fact that their fur is unkempt, dirty and ragged looking. Because cat fur length and density varies from breed to breed it’s especially important to give your cats some assistance when they may have more fur than other breeds.
As an aside I recommend that you feed your feline a premium cat food, especially in this time of pet food recalls. After all, a premium cat food can help in so many ways related to health.
Persians for one are a breed than can use their owner’s assistance in maintaining a healthy appearance. They tend to get food and other items easily stuck in their fur and are more prone to tear staining around their eyes. Once their fur gets wet and dirty, this just seems to compile and get worse. This can become an issue for these cats as they continually try to groom themselves to get themselves clean, which could result in a possible hairball fiasco.
To minimize hairballs in your cat, brush him regularly especially if he has long hair, to keep lose fur at a minimum. What you don’t want is Kitty swallowing lots of his own hair, which will go directly into his stomach. The hair is not food, it is not digestible, so Kitty will try to cough it back up. If you need to, trim your cat’s hair if necessary, and be sure to remove anything stuck in your cat’s fur.
